Registration for Open Studios 2011 Begins on January 19th*

What is Newton Open Studios?

Newton Open Studios is a relaxed and informal two-day community event: Newton artists show and offer their work for sale, and receive feedback from the public. Visitors use our detailed color Map & Guide and our interactive website to plan self-guided tours. Locations include homes, studios and group spaces.

IMPORTANT – New This Year:

We will no longer be matching up guest artists to host artists!

We will be happy to email a list of hosts who are looking for guests, and a list of artists looking for space to anyone needing a match-up. Please email me if you want to be on the list (info@newtonopenstudios.org) . But, artists must have their own space or a host secured before registering! There will be NO refunds to artists who register without finding space first. The only exception will be to artist who register for the NCC group space after it has filled.

Newton Cultural Center space:

This space will now require a $25 extra fee, and will be capped at 18-20 artists. If you choose and pay for this option, you will receive an email within 48 hours of receipt of payment, to let you know if we have confirmed a space for you. If we cannot, you will receive a full refund of all fees. You may re-register if you find alternate space. When we are sure the space is full, we will close registration for that space, but there will likely be a one-day lag.

Online Registration Fees and Deadlines

Please note NEW fee structure: Artists who require our NCC group space will pay a $25 additional fee.

Our EARLY fee has been reduced this year! (in previous years it has been $149).

Payments can be made either on-line, or by check.

Note that space at the NCC will not be held for you until we receive a payment. However, for the sake of fairness, we will not accept checks for the NCC space that were postmarked before Jan. 19th.

Registration by Mail:

Online registration is preferred. Artists who wish to register by mail must add $20 to the registration fee. The printed form will reflect these higher fees. Download a form.

Requirements

Artists must live, work, or create art in Newton, or belong to a Newton art organization.

Artists volunteer for at least 4 hours to help NOS happen. We have a wide variety of tasks to fit all schedules.

Artists supply their own displays.

Benefits

  • Show and sell your work in Newton's largest art event, with thousands of visitors.
  • Your own web page on NewtonOpenStudios.org that will stay up for one year is included in the registration fee. The web page includes 5 images of your work, your contact information, and artist's statement. Check out NewtonOpenStudios.org
  • On-line listings to promote your art events. Log on and create listings on the NOS web site, for any exhibits you’re involved in, all year long.
  • A color image and full listing in our comprehensive Map & Guide - distributed to 35,000 people. We will provide you with Guides to send to your mailing lists.
  • Artist Orientation Meeting and Materials. In early April: comprehensive information and checklists to help you fine-tune your open studio event.
  • Email "save-the-date" invitation - to send to your e-mail lists. Also sent to NOS's extensive email list.
  • Flyers and Sandwich Boards around Newton.
  • Announcements in the Tab, the Globe on-line, Newton Magazine and other publications.
  • The chance to meet & work with other Newton artists.

Notes:

Inclusion in the Printed Guide will be limited to 195 artists on a first-come-first-served basis.

If the Printed Guide quota is filled, or the Guide deadline has passed, artists will have the option to register WITHOUT being included in the guide. These artists will have all benefits of NOS membership, except inclusion in the printed guide. All reasonable efforts will be made to include these artists in the downloadable PDF Guide. (Fee will not be discounted.)
